Kinkaku-Ji Temple is a prominent Zen Buddhist temple in northern Kyoto, Japan. The temple was erected by 14th century military leader Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu as the majestic residence before it was converted to a temple by his son after his death.

The temple comprises 3 floors with 3 unique styles of architecture, namely 'Shinden', 'Samurai' and 'Zen'; with the first 2 floors completely covered in gold leaves. The magnificent temple overlooks a great pond and elegant gardens, and is regarded by many as the most beautiful monument from the 17 'Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto' and one of Japan's most famous tourist destinations.
